Al-Qaabid

المعنى · Meaning

قابض الرزق بحكمته

The Constrictor, The Withholder, The One who constricts the sustenance by His wisdom and expands and widens it with His Generosity and Mercy.

الشرح والدلالة · Explanation

القابض هو الذي يقبض الرزق والأرواح بقدرته وحكمته.

Al-Qaabid means 'The Constrictor' or 'The Withholder'. It signifies that Allah is the One who controls all things, including provision. He contracts and expands sustenance according to His wisdom. Sometimes He restricts provision as a test or mercy, and sometimes He expands it as a blessing or trial. Both constriction and expansion are from Him and contain wisdom beyond human understanding. This name complements Al-Baasit (The Expander). Quran References: 'Allah extends provision for whom He wills and restricts (it)' (13:26). 'And if Allah should touch you with adversity, there is no remover of it except Him' (6:17). Spiritual Significance: Al-Qaabid teaches us to be content in times of hardship and grateful in times of ease. Both are from Allah and contain hidden blessings. Benefit: Reciting Al-Qaabid helps in accepting Allah's decree, brings patience during difficulty, and protects from greed. It is beneficial for controlling desires and developing self-discipline.
